CHAPTER: An Impure Reunion Chapter 16

=========================================

16.

Holding Seol-ah's hand tightly, Jian entered the departure gate.

While she was busy trying to calm down Seol-ah, who was antsy to run around, a man approached them.

“Ms. Heo Jian?”

Jian, who had been telling Seol-ah to slow down a bit, turned her head at the sound of her name.

The person who came into view had a familiar face.

“Ah, Director Ha.”

“It’s been a while, Madam.”

Director Ha, the man who had been Taejun’s chief secretary even when Jian lived with him.

At the word “Madam” from his lips, Jian quickly glanced at Seol-ah.

Seol-ah was simply too distracted by her surroundings, busy pulling on her mother’s arm.

Relieved, Jian spoke to him in a low voice.

“That title, ‘Madam’… please refrain from using it, at least when the child is present.”

“Yes, I’ll be careful. This way, please.”

Director Ha replied that he understood and led Jian and Seol-ah.

Even as they moved, the child’s gaze was captivated by everything around her.

While Jian was smiling at Seol-ah, they arrived at the plane.

“Wow! Mom! The plane is huge!”

“Mhm, it is….”

Jian’s gaze fell on Director Ha.

There could only be one reason he had come this far: to prevent her from running away, just in case.

Seeing right through Taejun’s intentions, Jian let out a shallow sigh and boarded the plane.

After a flight that lasted nearly half a day, they arrived at Incheon Airport, and Seol-ah was fast asleep.

This was because the child had been busy chattering away to Jian throughout the flight, as if she had a million things to say.

As Jian passed through the arrival gate, Seol-ah was nestled in her arms.

“You’re here.”

And someone was waiting for them.

The moment she heard the familiar voice, Jian’s grip on Seol-ah tightened.

“I’ll hold her.”

“No.”

Taejun insisted on taking Seol-ah into his own arms.

Then, he whispered in Jian’s ear.

“She’s a hostage.”

At his voice, Jian bit her poor lower lip.

“To keep Heo Jian from running away again.”

“…….”

“I can’t exactly trust the person I had to drag back, can I?”

Just as the atmosphere of their conversation grew tense...

Seol-ah stirred faintly in Taejun’s arms.

Jian quickly patted the child’s back, coaxing her to stay asleep.

And at that moment, not too far away, a camera flash went off.

A vile smile appeared on the lips of the man who had captured their image.

“Well, look what I caught.”

He checked the photo he had taken, of Taejun and Jian standing close together, and then checked his phone.

Then, he dialed a familiar number and made a call.

As they neared the familiar neighborhood, and then the building, Jian’s heart began to pound.

Jian stroked the head of Seol-ah, who was still fast asleep with her head on Jian's lap.

Soon, the car driven by Director Ha entered the building’s underground parking garage.

When the car stopped in a suitable spot, Taejun reached for the child as if it were the most natural thing.

“Give her to me.”

“No, it’s fine. I’ll carry her to the house.”

“Heo Jian.”

Clutching Seol-ah, Jian quickly got out of the car.

“Where would I go, now that I’m here?”

Jian’s feet moved with familiarity.

She remembered the way from here to the house so well it was sickening.

The place they had arrived at was the house they had lived in together when they were married.

The thought that she was once again walking through the same underground garage she had left five years ago made Jian’s heart beat hard.

Her heart showed no signs of calming down.

She even felt dizzy, as if she might lose consciousness at any moment.

If Seol-ah hadn’t been in her arms, Jian might have collapsed right there.

Fortunately, Seol-ah didn’t wake up until they were inside the house, remaining in Jian’s arms the whole time.

“I’m going to put the child to bed.”

“Second floor.”

Jian quickened her pace and set foot on the stairs leading to the second floor.

Thump, thump, her heart began to beat even more violently.

It grew even more intense when she stood before the door to what was once their marital bedroom.

As Jian hesitated in front of the door, Taejun, who had followed her up, spoke.

“That room, I had it decorated as a room for the kid.”

Leaning his head against the wall as he watched Jian, he approached and threw the door open.

“It was prepared in a hurry, but it’s enough for a child to live in for now.”

The room was larger than the one Jian and Seol-ah had shared when they lived at Grace.

Contrary to his words about it being prepared in a hurry, the room was well-decorated.

“Thank you.”

Jian quickly laid Seol-ah down on the bed.

As she was laid down, the child smiled sweetly and smacked her lips.

Watching her, Jian thankfully felt her heart grow a little calmer.

Jian sat on the edge of the bed, pulled the blanket up to Seol-ah’s neck, and gently stroked the soundly sleeping child’s head.

Jian was so focused on Seol-ah that she didn’t notice Taejun approaching her.

“You’re finally back.”

Flinching, Jian trembled slightly as his voice seeped directly into her ear.

“Heo Jian, back to this house.”

Taejun embraced her from behind.

His breath brushed right against the nape of her neck.

The sound of skin against skin echoed starkly in the room.

“Stop, please stop.”

“Stop what?”

Ignoring her pleas, Taejun’s lips repeatedly pressed against the nape of her neck.

“After Heo Jian left, I never came into this room….”

“…….”

“And now I’m back in it like this.”

Taejun buried his lips more persistently into the nape of her neck.

The more his lips touched her, the more a chill ran down her spine and her lower abdomen began to tighten.

Jian tried to ignore the heat pooling in her body as she struggled to stop him.

“Stop, please. What will you do if the child wakes up?”

“Damn it, always the child.”

“Hh.”

The moment the word “child” left Jian’s lips, Taejun bared his teeth and bit the nape of her neck.

A stinging sensation spread from her nape.

“Stop talking about that damned child, Jian.”

Sensing the anger in Taejun’s voice, Jian squeezed her eyes shut.

Not missing the opportunity, Taejun skillfully swept his hand down her waistline.

“You have time to make excuses about the child?”

“Hup.”

“You should be as honest as your body, Jian.”

At that moment, she heard the faint sound of the child stirring.

The sound seeping into her ears snapped Jian back to her senses.

She checked on the child, who still seemed to be in a deep sleep, but she couldn’t let her guard down.

Barely holding onto her senses, Jian pushed Taejun out of the room with all her strength.

“Get out.”

She said in a low voice, then hurried back into the room and slammed the door shut.

As soon as the door closed, Taejun’s voice came from the other side.

“Just for tonight.”

From his voice alone, she could tell he was struggling to contain his anger.

“Don’t drive me crazier, Heo Jian.”

Taejun’s footsteps grew more distant from the room.

When she could no longer sense his presence, Jian leaned her back against the door and sank to the floor.

She had clearly run away to escape Taejun, yet it felt as if she were still in the palm of his hand.

The reason was that the very room she had collapsed in was once her and Taejun’s.

Jian’s expression grew complicated as she looked around the room, now transformed into one for a child.

“Ha, you’re crazy, Heo Jian.”

Whether it was because of the room she had returned to, or because Taejun had just left her body burning with arousal,

the heat showed no signs of subsiding.

Jian let out a deep sigh and buried her face in her knees.

‘I’m back, in the end.’

After trying so desperately to escape, she had finally returned to the very house she had barely managed to flee.

As she recognized that fact once more, Jian’s heart began to pound.

Even while sitting, the world was spinning before her eyes; her condition was not good.

“Haaa….”

She thought she had gotten over it, but from the moment she arrived at Incheon Airport, her heart had lost its senses and begun to react violently.

It only intensified when they entered the familiar neighborhood.

‘Try to clear your mind as much as possible. When you unexpectedly face this state, it’s good to repeat deep breaths in and out.’

This sudden return to Korea was a worse choice for Jian than it was for Seol-ah.

The biggest reason Jian and Seol-ah had left Korea for London was for the improvement of Jian’s condition.

After leaving Taejun’s house, Jian had suffered from periodic nightmares, as well as difficulty breathing and symptoms of panic.

It was a sickness of the mind she had developed while living with Taejun.

It was so severe that she had to receive regular counseling.

‘The best thing is to get away from that kind of situation.’

That was the doctor’s advice to Jian, who was gradually getting better but still couldn't escape her anxiety symptoms.

The situation Jian needed to escape was this very Korea, where Taejun’s reach lurked.

Just when she thought she was getting a little better, Jian had decided to leave Korea to prevent herself from getting worse again.

And yet,

‘Is there no escape?’

She had returned to the very place she had so desperately fled.

As her thoughts threatened to delve deeper, Jian felt her heart react more violently and tried her best to control her emotions, to even her breathing.

In the large room, the sound of Seol-ah’s soft breathing mingled with the sound of Jian struggling to catch her own.
