SERIES: An Impure Reunion
CHAPTER: An Impure Reunion Chapter 2
=========================================
2.
“Where's the baby's father?”
The moment Taejun asked the question, thump, Jian felt her heart plummet.
With a trembling body, Jian barely managed to turn and face Taejun.
As if finding her expression amusing, Taejun approached with a smirk.
“You acted like you were going to start a life with your lover right away, but you came to England alone?”
“…Th-that's.”
“Why? Just why could that be?”
Watching Taejun feign curiosity, Jian’s mouth began to go dry.
Taejun began to circle leisurely around Jian.
“Could it be that Heo Jian, who so brazenly told me she had another man, felt at least a pang of guilt?”
From the side, from behind, and then from the side again, his voice reached her.
“How pathetic.”
After completing a full circle, Taejun stood before Jian once more, meeting her gaze.
Unlike the relaxed smile on his lips, his eyes were filled with rage.
After a long moment of staring, he took an envelope from his inner pocket and held it out to Jian.
“Take it.”
The envelope, practically forced upon her, felt strangely thick.
Warily watching Taejun, Jian took the envelope he offered and found a bundle of papers inside.
As Jian checked its contents, her face began to turn deathly pale.
“Th-this is! When did you…”
What he had given Jian was the result of a DNA test between Seol-ah and Taejun.
“I had to confirm that Heo Jian cheated on me.”
“Th-that’s…”
Staring at the cover of the report, Jian felt her world go dark.
It seemed Taejun had finally learned the truth.
The fact that Seol-ah was his own flesh and blood.
Jian stood there, utterly devastated.
“I couldn't believe it, but…”
“Mr. Taejun, I'm sorry about…”
“So it's true. You cheated on me right under my nose.”
What did he just say? Jian looked at Taejun with a bewildered expression.
After staring blankly at Taejun for a moment, Jian hurriedly flipped to the back of the report.
When she read the final sentence, her blood ran cold.
‘Wh-what is this? Why is Seol-ah…?’
The DNA test report showed that Taejun and Seol-ah did not have a parent-child relationship.
The fact that Taejun had met Seol-ah without her knowledge was shocking enough,
but even more shocking was the fact that their parent-child relationship was not established.
How could this result be possible? While Jian stood there in disbelief, Taejun strode forward, closing the distance between them.
And he placed a hand on top of her head.
“If you were going to have an affair, you should have at least tried living with that bastard.”
“…Th-that's.”
“You left saying that bastard you cheated with meant everything to you, so you should have kept him by your side. Why didn't you?”
Taejun's low murmur sounded gentle, but Jian could tell he was furious.
“What am I supposed to do, coming all this way when that bastard isn't even here?”
It wasn't just his voice; his eyes were the same.
And yet, the hand stroking her hair was so very gentle.
But instead of feeling reassured, Jian felt goosebumps rise all over her body.
In contrast, a leisurely smile played on Taejun's lips.
“You should have at least lived well with that bastard before I found you like this. You won't be able to now.”
“What does that, mean…”
Taejun cut her off.
“It's a shame, Heo Jian. But from now on, you will never leave my grasp again.”
“…….”
“Because I won't be letting you go from this moment on.”
Jian's shoulders began to stiffen.
It seemed he hadn't come all this way just to see her.
“You've had your little deviation. Isn't it time to go home?”
It seemed he had come all this way to take her back.
Jian's stiff body soon began to tremble like a leaf.
She barely managed to move her eyes to meet Taejun's gaze.
“Let's go, Heo Jian.”
“…….”
“I came to get you. Jian.”
The gaze that met hers was no different from the one 5 years—no, 7 years ago, on the day her grandmother's condition suddenly worsened.
“How pathetic.”
“…What are you saying…?”
The day Taejun said those words was the day Jian's grandmother, who was both a father and a mother to the parentless girl, was moved to the intensive care unit.
Just three or four months prior, Jian's grandmother had been hale and hearty.
She was healthy enough to take on menial jobs at a restaurant, determined to help pay for Jian's college tuition.
When Jian heard that her once-healthy grandmother was suddenly in the hospital, she felt like her world was collapsing.
Afterward, the hospital hounded Jian for the medical bills, while her grandmother hovered between life and death, leaving a raw wound on Jian's heart.
When she heard her grandmother had been moved to the ICU, Jian thought she just wanted to die.
“I said the sight of you sniveling is pathetic, Heo Jian.”
So, on the day her entire world was about to collapse, these were the words she heard from the man she had a one-sided love for.
Jian, who had been barely holding herself together in front of her grandmother's ICU room, lifted her tear-stained face and looked at Taejun with eyes full of resentment.
“Senior, do you really think that's something you should be saying to me right now?”
Jian's voice was laced with anger.
Was that something to say to a person drowning in the sorrow of potentially losing their family?
But Taejun didn't even blink at her gaze or her voice.
“Senior, I didn't know you were such a rude person.”
When she had spotted Taejun while at a loss in front of the ICU, Jian had secretly hoped she might receive a kind word from him.
But the moment she heard his first words, Jian felt a pain as if her heart were being torn to shreds.
Whether he knew how she felt or not, Taejun let out a sneer.
“Go on, Heo Jian. Let's see how long you can hold out.”
“……?”
“I think I'll have to use you.”
At Taejun's following words, Jian raised her eyes slightly to study his face.
She examined his face carefully, but it was impossible to guess what he was thinking.
“…What are you talking about right now?”
“We should get married.”
“…What are you-”
“Seeing you in this state makes me feel pity for you.”
Rather than making her heart flutter, the word "marriage" from Taejun's lips, followed by the word "pity," felt like it was tearing her heart to pieces.
‘How pathetic.’
‘Senior?’
‘I don't even feel pity for you.’
She was suddenly reminded of his response from a couple of months ago, when she confessed the feelings she had long cherished for him.
That cold, harsh reply, saying he didn't even feel pity.
How much had she cried over that answer?
But now, hearing him say he at least felt pity, she couldn't tell if she should be happy or upset.
Before the confusion on Jian's face could fade, Taejun continued.
“Before this is a choice for your sake, it's a decision I've made because this marriage will benefit me as well.”
“What does that…”
“In exchange for using you, I have to get something out of it, right?”
“……?”
“Have a child first.”
A child? At the words that came from Taejun's mouth, Jian's face was painted with horror.
The Taejun before her was no longer the Seonbae she knew, the one she had a crush on.
“...How could you say something like that…”
Before Jian could finish her sentence, Taejun grabbed her by the jaw.
Startled by the strength of his grip, Jian began to tremble like a leaf.
“Then do you want to lose your family in vain?”
“…….”
“If you don't want that, you'd be wise to listen to me.”
Two weeks later, her grandmother's condition stabilized to some extent.
And Jian married him.
With her grandmother still frail, though out of the ICU, Jian wore a wedding dress.
Her face was even paler than the dazzlingly beautiful white wedding dress she wore.
“Smile.”
“…….”
“You got what you wanted. A long face doesn't suit you, does it?”
As Taejun's voice seeped into her ear, Jian forced a smile onto her lips.
And that day was also the first time she was held by Taejun.
“Heuk, it hurts…Ugh!”
His merciless actions sent pain spreading through her entire body,
and the memory of shedding tears from that pain was all that remained in her mind.
“You're taking it quite well now.”
On the second night, a sense of shame washed over her at the pleasure that spread through her body.
“Heuk, ugh…W-wait a moment!”
“A moment? It feels like you're about to break me off down there, Heo Jian.”
She cried from the shame.
Was this truly a consensual night between a married couple?
Or were they just beings pressing their bodies together in search of pleasure?
Just as she reached that thought, the third night came.
“Damn it, Heo Jian, lift your hips.”
“Hngh, hah…!”
That day, Jian resigned herself to everything and let him take her.
Dozens, hundreds of nights passed like that, and two years had gone by since she became his wife.
Her grandmother, who had been faintly holding on day by day, passed away last year, and just like that, Jian lost her family.
Except for Taejun, no one was left by her side.
Then one day, Jian realized there was a change in her body.
“Ueup.”
Clutching her churning stomach, she barely made it to the bathroom.
She hadn't eaten anything all day, yet she had to empty her stomach.
As the painful moments passed, she suddenly realized.
She hadn't had her period this month.
‘Ah, have a child first.’
She was carrying his child.
