CHAPTER: An Impure Reunion Chapter 5

5.
“Why. So you can hit me if I let you go? Hit me once and then scurry off like a rat?”
“Hngh, p-please…”
“I told you to shut your mouth. Heo Jian.”
Taejun’s voice was still laced with anger.
His thrusts against her grew even faster.
“An affair, right, you must have gotten pregnant from sleeping with that bastard. But…”
“Hngh, sob!”
“It was the same with me, wasn’t it?”
With the movement of his hips, Jian’s body went limp like a paper doll.
After driving into her for a long while, he suddenly placed a hand on her stomach.
“We’re used to this, aren’t we? How would you know if this child is that bastard’s or mine?”
“Hngh, hnh! Ugh! P-please, st-stop…!”
“Isn’t that right, Heo Jian?”
Feeling his hand rubbing her stomach, Jian bit her lower lip.
The friction of their bodies colliding increased, and Taejun’s movements grew rougher.
After his body finished its climax, he pushed himself back inside Jian.
As the series of events began anew, Jian had to endure for so long that her lower lip burst and bled.
When the long act was over and Jian opened her eyes, darkness had fallen around her.
And there was no one beside her.
The faint sound of running water stimulated her ears.
“Ugh.”
As she carefully placed her feet beside the bed, pain spread through her entire body.
Her whole body, exhausted from receiving his acts for hours, was screaming.
But there was no time to be lost to the pain.
She saw the milky fluid running down her thigh but forced herself to ignore it as she gathered her clothes and put them on.
The sound of water flowing from the bathroom continued until she was fully dressed.
Without even thinking of grabbing the luggage she had packed, Jian carefully opened the door, clutching only her phone and a piece of paper from the drawer, and operated her phone.
When she turned on the screen, a text message had arrived.
[Kang Jae: Jian, I’m in your building’s underground parking lot. I’ll wait until you come out. Contact me.]
Kang Jae, the older brother of Jian’s close friend, Kangji.
He was the one Jian had called this afternoon to ask for help.
Looking at Kang Jae’s message, Jian’s eyes suddenly welled with tears.
Forcing strength into her eyes in case a tear should fall, Jian touched the screen.
[I’m coming out now.]
After sending a text somewhere, Jian immediately left that house.
That place that had stolen her life.
“Think carefully.”
After kissing Jian’s lips once more, Taejun left Grace.
Watching the door close as he left, Jian staggered toward the counter.
As she collapsed into a chair, her hands began to tremble.
It was as if a storm had swept through Grace after Taejun’s visit.
And it seemed the person who had suffered the most damage from that storm was Jian.
Finally managing to still the trembling in her hands, Jian carefully examined what she was holding.
‘A flight to Korea, one week from now.’
What she held in her hand was a plane ticket to Korea.
It was what Taejun had pressed into her hand a moment ago.
Jian fiddled with the ticket for a moment.
Worry was etched on her face as she did so.
The reason for her expression was that he had only given her a single ticket.
‘When you come back to my side, you need to sort everything out.’
In particular, Taejun’s words about “sorting things out” put Jian in a very difficult position.
“Where on earth did it all go wrong?”
What in the world was happening?
When had Taejun met Seol-ah and gotten his hands on her DNA?
And why did he come back with results saying Seol-ah, who was clearly his child, was not his blood?
What was happening to her right now?
Jian buried her face in her hands and let out a pained groan.
Though one thought led to another in an endless chain, no answer emerged.
It was while Jian was racking her brain.
“Mom!”
With a voice like an angel’s, she heard the sound of Seol-ah approaching with quick, small steps.
When Jian lifted her face from her hands, the child’s face was right before her eyes.
“Mom, are you crying?”
Seol-ah, her face on the verge of tears, seemed preoccupied with checking her mother’s expression.
Looking at the child, Jian finally managed a faint smile.
“No, I’m not crying.”
For a moment, it felt as if the worries that had filled her mind were instantly resolved just by stroking the child’s face.
As if pleased by her mother’s touch, a constant smile played on Seol-ah’s face as well.
“Mom, um, can I ask, no, may I ask you something?”
After receiving Jian’s touch for a while, Seol-ah carefully opened her mouth.
At the child’s cautious question, Jian couldn’t help but let out a small laugh.
She had recently started learning how to use polite speech with elders, and it seemed to be quite difficult for her.
“Yes, you may ask, princess.”
“Who was that Mister from before?”
But the moment she heard the words come out of Seol-ah’s mouth, the color drained from Jian’s face.
Jian awkwardly stroked Seol-ah’s hair, avoiding the child’s gaze as she turned her head away.
What should she say?
Should she tell her that man is her father?
And should she tell her that he thinks she isn’t his biological child?
While Jian hesitated over what to answer, Seol-ah moved her small lips.
“Mom, actually, I saw that Mister at kindergarten a little while ago.”
“…When?”
“On Monday, when I was about to go into kindergarten, he called my name. In Korean!”
It seemed Seol-ah found it fascinating to hear Korean in a foreign country where few people spoke it.
Looking at the child’s sparkling eyes, Jian’s heart grew heavy once more.
“He said there was something on my hair and wiped it off for me.”
The moment she heard Seol-ah’s words, Jian understood when Taejun had obtained the child’s DNA.
He had probably taken it when he touched the child’s hair.
If so, then it was even stranger.
There was no way Seol-ah wasn’t Taejun’s blood. What on earth could have happened?
While Jian was lost in thought for a moment, Seol-ah cautiously called to her.
“But, Mom.”
“Yes?”
“But, but, something was strange.”
Seol-ah’s expression as she mentioned something strange looked rather confused.
The child seemed to hesitate for a moment before finally opening her mouth.
“That Mister smelled like you, Mom!”
“…What?”
“So even though it was the first time I saw him, I wasn’t very scared.”
He was a stranger, yet she wasn’t scared. That single phrase seemed to pierce Jian’s heart.
Seol-ah had been very shy around strangers since she was little.
She found it especially difficult to meet adult men.
She still had trouble talking with Tom, the owner of Grace.
For such a child to stand still while Taejun, a man she had never seen before, touched her hair was certainly a strange thing.
Perhaps the child had instinctively recognized her own father.
At that thought, Jian felt as if her heart was crumbling.
That the man himself didn’t know of his own fatherhood, which even his child knew by instinct.
Jian had no idea how to fix this irony.
As Jian was lost in thought once more, the child gently tapped the back of her mother’s hand.
Jian quickly put on a smile and met Seol-ah’s gaze.
“Seol-ah. What is it?”
“Actually, there’s something else I’m curious about.”
“What are you curious about, my daughter?”
“Dad, will he smell the same as you, Mom?”
Dad. The word “dad” coming from Seol-ah’s mouth made Jian’s heart shatter once more.
Looking at Seol-ah’s face as she asked with an innocent expression, Jian pulled the child into a fierce hug.
As the child entered her embrace, her scent stimulated Jian’s sense of smell.
Just by smelling that sweet scent, the tip of Jian’s nose grew cold.
“You were curious about your dad, weren’t you, my Seol-ah?”
“Yes!”
The sudden hug from her mother might have been startling, but the child burrowed even deeper into Jian’s arms.
“Heehee, I like Mom’s smell.”
Jian gently, so gently, stroked the back of the child who said she liked her mom’s smell.
Jian’s touch as she stroked the child’s back was filled with apology and affection.
As her hand stroked her back, Jian’s lips parted and closed several times.
The words swirling in her mouth were these:
‘That man is your father, Seol-ah.’
That the man who didn’t scare you even though you’d never seen him before is your dad.
That you’ve already smelled the scent of the father you’re so curious about.
There were many words that rose to her throat, but they couldn’t bring themselves to leave Jian’s lips.
Jian held Seol-ah in her arms for a long time.
Right before leaving Grace, Taejun had discussed sorting things out.
‘Sort things out, what do you mean by…’
‘For example, the man you were sleeping with’s…’
‘…….’
‘It’s that child, isn’t it?’
The one he wanted her to sort out was none other than Seol-ah.
To sort out his own flesh and blood, not the child of another man.
Jian couldn’t bring herself to tell Seol-ah that the man who was her father was someone who could so easily say to get rid of his own daughter.
Should she just hug Seol-ah like this and hide from him again?
But recalling what Taejun had added before leaving the guesthouse, Jian squeezed her eyes shut.
‘Don’t even think about running away.’
‘…R-run away?’
‘The moment you run, you don’t want to see this place Heo Jian has grown so fond of turned into a wasteland, do you?’
Taejun had already seen through what Jian would be thinking.
As expected, even after five years, he was still a cruel man.
