Chapter 10
— — —
The Angel calmly drew a new sword from the next page of the book. This time, it was a thin rapier.
*Clang! Clang!*
The Angel swung the sword with the grace of a fencer.
The Demon defended against it fiercely with his sharp claws, diving into the Angel’s guard.
[All you ever do is spout pathetic hypocrisy!]
[Do you not know that even hypocrisy is a form of good?]
[Acting all high and mighty!]
[You vulgar things who don't even know how to act noble.]
As the two supernatural beings exchanged blows, the room became a complete wreck.
The windows were already shattered, and it looked like the floor would have to be torn up and replaced entirely.
‘If this keeps up, the mansion will be completely destroyed!’
I had chosen the wrong place for the summoning.
If I had known this would happen, I should have done it in a corner of the garden or deep in the woods!
“Wait a moment!”
I jumped between the Angel and the Demon, who were glaring at each other and exchanging fierce attacks and insults.
I had no plan for what to do next.
I was just acting on impulse, and I knew it was reckless, pathetic, and stupid.
But what could I do? I had already let go of everything.
“Stop!”
[Idir!]
[Hey, you!]
Seeing me jump into the fight without a second thought, both the Demon and the Angel looked visibly flustered.
The Angel, who had been about to plunge his sword into the Demon’s chest, hurriedly dropped his weapon. Conversely, the Demon, who had been about to attack the Angel, couldn't slow his momentum.
The Demon swept me up and we rolled across the floor together.
“Ugh!”
My body was dragged along, and my vision spun. However, there wasn't any particular pain.
“……?”
When I came to my senses and looked up, the Demon was wrapped tightly around me, acting irritable.
[Do you want to die? You’re just a human, why are you interfering!]
I looked up at him, feeling bitter, and asked.
“Are you protecting me right now?”
[Then does it look like I’m attacking you?]
The Demon snapped back sharply.
In the meantime, the Angel approached me and kicked the Demon’s shoulder with the tip of his foot.
[Get away from the human, you filthy thing.]
The Angel pulled me up from where I had been half-crushed under the Demon’s body and stood me beside him.
The Angel waved his hand in the air, creating a massive circle of light.
[Hey, you ■■■!]
The Demon was shouting something from outside the circle, but I couldn't hear him.
This must be the Angel’s ability or magic.
As I instinctively reached out to touch the light rising from the circle, the Angel grabbed my hand.
[It is dangerous to touch, Idir.]
He straightened me up and turned me to face him. His downward gaze was quite cold.
[You have done a foolish thing.]
However, his scolding voice was gentle. The Angel Sariel let out a faint sigh.
“Since I summoned a Demon, will I die and be punished?”
[Did you not hear earlier?]
When I asked, the wrinkles between the Angel Sariel’s brows smoothed out a little.
His friendly attitude was a bit unfamiliar.
[I came to give you one more chance before you commit a true sin.]
“What is the standard for the ‘sin’ you speak of?”
[It refers to making a contract with a Demon to take what you want and offering your soul in return.]
“If I say I will make a contract with the Demon, will I end up like that?”
I pointed to Deyan, who was pinned to the wall.
[Idir. You can be reckless because you do not know what true hell is.]
The Angel sighed low and chided me as if it were somewhat bothersome.
[Your prayers were clearly heard. Every soul that has committed a sin will surely have to settle its karma, so let go of your anger and find your own life.]
Empty words.
I folded my hands politely as if I were praying and smiled with my eyes crinkling.
“I want to make the culprit pay the price with my own hands while he is still alive.”
The Angel Sariel fell silent.
A brief silence swept between us. Soon, solemnity settled in Sariel’s eyes.
[That is a foolish thought.]
“You’re right. It is foolish.”
[Idir.]
“Then, will you help me, Sariel? Punishing those who have sinned is also the duty of an Angel, isn't it?”
[…….]
Perhaps he would consider me an impudent human and add a charge of contempt to my list of sins.
But what could I do?
I was at the edge of a cliff. I had to either bite the beast that approached or fall; there was no other choice.
“Well?”
[Help you? As if.]
Just then, dark smoke covered the surroundings.
A fiercely distorted voice rang out nearby, and someone snatched my waist.
[Those pigeon bastards can’t interfere in human affairs because of their damn rules.]
The Demon, having broken through the Angel’s barrier, wrapped his arms around my waist and rested his chin on my shoulder.
[In other words, they’re a group of well-dressed idiots.]
A dizzyingly sweet voice brushed against my eardrum.
The Demon stroked my side and the nape of my neck with soft, subtle movements, as if touching a lover.
[So, Idir. Beg me.]
The Demon’s magenta eyes shimmered in the black mist.
The threat that he might bite my neck at any moment, combined with his seductive demeanor that made me forget reality, shook me to my core.
[I will grant your revenge. In exchange…….]
[Your boasting is excessive, Beval.]
*Whoosh!*
With a gust of wind, the black mist cleared away cleanly.
[Tsk.]
The Angel was, of course, standing where the Demon’s clicking tongue was directed.
He glared at the Demon, his blue eyes burning silently.
[Idir.]
The Angel’s gaze locked onto me.
[That guy, everything he says is a lie.]
[What do you mean, a lie! Are you saying I can’t even help with a measly revenge?]
[You can’t.]
A smirk curled the corner of the Angel’s mouth.
[Demons have lost their power now.]
What is he talking about?
I widened my eyes and turned back to the Demon, Beval.
He was biting his lip in frustration, glaring only at the Angel.
‘Could it be.’
My heart began to pound with foreboding.
Was everything I’d done so far in vain? No, wait. It’s a lie, right?
‘Tell me it’s not true, you Demon bastard.’
As if sensing my gaze, his vertically slit pupils shifted.
[Th-that’s a lie.]
“…….”
[It’s true. I haven't lost all my power.]
“So you did lose some of it.”
[Just listen to me.]
The Demon tried to make excuses.
‘A Demon who can’t use his power.’
I don’t need something like that.
I quickly went in front of Sariel, knelt down, and clasped my hands together.
“Sariel.”
[…….]
“Please forgive my foolishness. I will repent.”
[……You are a duplicitous child, Idir.]
“I’m just quick with numbers.”
[Hey! At least listen to me before you go to him! I still have things to say!]
The Demon shouted from behind, but I didn't even pretend to listen.
“I will no longer listen to the whispers of such a Demon.”
That was a close call. I refuse to be hollowed out and nailed to a wall, let alone get my revenge.
Even while begging Sariel for forgiveness, my mind was racing.
‘Didn't Count Nemanich say he would help with my revenge earlier?’
Should I at least verify the validity of that declaration?
I could solve the problem of him being nailed to the wall and put him in my debt, or take Holdin hostage again…….
‘Oh dear. Giselle has probably already taken care of that.’
Then the hostage-taking plan is dismissed.
Just as I was busy sorting out the situation, the Demon grabbed my shoulder firmly.
[Damn it! Once the order of Hell is restored, I can do your revenge and whatever else you want!]
I was forced to face the Demon’s face again.
[I could even blow this entire continent away!]
“That would be a problem. This is part of the continent, too.”
And I want my revenge immediately; I have no interest in the order of Hell or whatever.
At my reaction, the Demon bared his teeth and growled.
[It’s because some son of a bitch is shaking up the order. Someone helped, absorbed a massive amount of souls, and ran off to the human world.]
“If the order is so easily shaken, isn't it better off not existing at all?”
[Don't play with my words.]
The Demon pointed out the fact irritably.
[I couldn't cross over to the human world because of that guy, and then you happened to summon us.]
Having seen through my inner thoughts, the Demon made a new proposal.
[Once I hunt that bastard down, I’ll do whatever you ask. I don’t even need your soul.]
Hmm.
‘Is the Demon in a position where he’s clinging to me?’
I stood up and glanced at the Angel.
[I’ll hunt that bastard down, and you get your revenge.]
[Idir. Do not listen to him.]
[Divine punishment only comes when you sell your soul to a Demon. If I don’t take your soul, there’s no problem at all.]
[You must not agree, Idir. You just repented.]
The Angel shook his head at me with an ominous expression.
